Three months at ONG AVEC, Battambang (Cambodia)

Fin mars 2017. Michel, mon compagnon, et moi-même arrivons au terme de notre engagement de trois mois chez AVEC.
C’est grâce à une amie qui nous a précédés comme bénévole dans l’ONG que nous avons connu Patrik Roux et son centre de protection pour enfants. Dès nos premiers contacts par Skype, nous avons tout de suite apprécié le professionnalisme et l’éthique stricte de Patrik ; celui-ci n’engage aucun bénévole à la légère, et il nous a fallu passablement réfléchir pour définir, chacun de notre côté et à sa demande, quelles étaient nos motivations et nos compétences !

Début janvier 2017, nous débarquions donc à Battambang, motivés, enthousiastes, heureux d’avoir trouvé ce travail dans l’humanitaire (un très vieux rêve à moi…), et aussi un peu anxieux !

Après quelques jours d’acclimatation (la chaleur !), nous voici en rase campagne, au milieu des rizières asséchées, dans le superbe centre de protection de Patrik et Theavy Roux.

Superbe parce que nous sommes tout de suite frappés par l’aspect accueillant des lieux : alors qu’alentour tout brûle sous le soleil, le centre est plein de fleurs, d’arbres et de verdure, et nous apercevons des enfants un peu partout !

Nos tâches n’étaient en fait pas très définies, mais tout s’est mis en place assez rapidement : comme il y avait une panne d’électricité et que Michel est ingénieur, il est allé regarder… et il y est toujours, depuis trois mois ! Il a révisé toute l’installation électrique qui en avait apparemment bien besoin.

Quant à moi, j’ai passé les matinées avec les adorables enfants : d’abord à assister tant bien que mal la maîtresse au jardin d’enfants (40 enfants en moyenne…), puis à jouer avec les quatre plus petits enfants du refuge jusqu’au repas.

Ensuite je me suis attelée tous les après-midi à la traduction du site Internet de français en anglais, une tâche difficile mais bien intéressante.

Les samedis en revanche, le programme était différent : Michel donnait des cours de guitare, et moi des cours de français et d’anglais.

C’est ainsi que les jours et les semaines ont passé…toutes sortes d’émotions nous ont traversé pendant tout ce temps… il a fallu faire sa place, trouver ses marques au sein de ce petit monde attachant, apprivoiser les enfants, essayer de comprendre les us et coutumes d’ici, s’insérer au mieux dans cette « famille » (car c’en est une), se demander si ce que nous faisions était adéquat…accepter la chaleur, la poussière (une infection de l’œil et une toux persistante en cadeau !)…

Mais surtout, ce que nous retiendrons de ce refuge, c’est la joie et les rires des enfants : ces enfants qui tous reviennent de loin, ont tous vécu des choses très difficiles, ont retrouvé ici leur enfance ; et la journée est ponctuée de cris et de rires de gosses qui s’amusent et/ou scandent leurs leçons dans les salles de classe.

Nous avons également admiré la manière d’envisager l’aide humanitaire de Patrik et Theavy : ils suivent une ligne de conduite pour tous leurs jeunes, les suivant de A à Z dans leur parcours, exigeants mais bienveillants. Ils encouragent la scolarisation dans les villages par toutes sortes de moyens, parcourent inlassablement le terrain à la recherche des plus vulnérables, espérant à long terme devenir inutiles….

Au terme de notre séjour, avec tout ce que nous avons vu et vécu, nous leur disons merci, bonne chance et bravo.
